Dirofilaria immitis ova in a transthoracic fine-needle aspirate from a dog

A sample of thoracic exudate from a dog which had been treated for dirofilariasis with sodium caparsolate and levamisole, and had developed a respiratory disorder, contained eggs of D. immitis and blood cells. Characteristic thromboembolic lesions were found at post mortem examination, and several live D. immitis were present in the right ventricle.
