The ability of the Liverpool strain of Aedes aegypti, infected with microfilariae of Dirofilaria immitis, to transmit the heartworm larvae to 3 dogs was assessed. Transmission of D. immitis from A. aegypti to dog was demonstrated, but this mosquito was not as successful as A. aegypti for producing infective 3rd-stage larvae for use in inoculative transfer studies.
