Effect of vasoactive agents on urine and electrolyte excretion in the chicken

Three cholinomimetic agents and three non-cholinomimetic renal vasodilators were infused into the renal portal system of hens in order to observe their effects on urine and electrolyte excretion. Arecoline, pilocarpine, and propionylcholine produced a unilateral increase in sodium and water excretion. Inulin excretion was not affected. Neither the excretion of paminohippuric acid nor the apparent tubular excretion fraction of PAH was affected.
