Comparison of Visidex and dextrometer with glucose analyzer (Gilford system 203, hexokinase method) determination of blood glucose in diabetics

Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SM-BG) was first reported in 1978. The subsequent studies and reports all revealed its importance and necessity in diabetics. Preventing diabetic microvascular changes and its chronic complications, SMBG plays a key role in type I or IDDM patients. It also allows the patient to participate actively in their own management. The purpose of the study was to assess the reliability and accuracy of the the Visidex and the dextrometer. These 2 methods are new devices for determining whole blood glucose at home. Blood samples (369) were measured by Visidex and dextrometer. Simultaneous blood samples were sent to a laboratory for serum glucose determination with a YSI model 23A glucose analyzer (Glucose oxidase method) and a Gilford system 203 (Hexokinase method). The results showed Visidex and dextrometer correlated excellently with the Gilford system 203 (r = 0.86, 0.94; P < 0.001) with a very excellent correlation between the YSI model 23A glucose analyzer and the Gilford system 203 (r = 0.99; P < 0.001).
