To evaluate the effect of dopamine on pulmonary circulation, an experimental study was performed using normoxic and hypoxic dogs. Dopamine 10 .gamma./kg per min was administered i.v. to each of 6 dogs and aortic pressure, left atrial pressure, cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance and pulmonary vascular resistance were measured. No significant change in pulmonary circulation of both normoxic and hypoxic group was obtained. In hypoxic group, however, pulmonary vascular resistance tended to increase. Careful consideration should be paid to the clinical administration of dopamine to hypoxic patients.
