Nonesterified fatty acids in the brain structures--the effect of convulsive activity

The convulsive activity in rats provoked by Bemegrid (4-methyl-4-ethyl-2,6-piperidindionum) after 20 min increased nonesterified fatty acids (palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, arachidonic acid) in the brain cortex (+17%). the hypothalamus (+10%) and the brain stem (+14%). The greatest increase was observed in arachidonic acid (+31%) in the brain stem. The importance of the described findings for epileptogenic mechanisms is considered.
