A total of 30 P. boughtoni larvae emerged sporadically from 6 of 12 experimentally infected Vallonia pulchella. A rabbit exposed to 23 emerged larvae developed a patent infection 28 days post-exposure. However, under natural conditions, it is concluded that the low mean intensity of infection in snails and the dryness of many snowshoe hare habitats make transmision of P. boughtoni via isolated 3rd-star larvae unlikely.
