Three cases of rhinocerebral infection seen in diabetic patients during 1975-81 are reported. Fungi were detected histopathologically and identified by culture. Two of the patients were suffering from phycomycosis and the 3rd from Aspergillus fumigatus infection. Extensive surgical debridement, chronic intravenous infusions of amphotericin B and control of diabetes mellitus failed to resolve the rhino-orbitocerebral infections due to phycomycosis and aspergillosis and the patients died. The rhino-maxillary phycomycosis responded well to this regimen and the patient survived.
