Successful treatment of rhinocerebral mucormycosis: report on a pediatric patient

A case of rhinocerebral phycomycosis is reported in a 13-yr-old diabetic girl. The diagnosis was made on the basis of sections of nasal septum and smears and cell blocks from aspirates of nodules on the cheek. The patient was successfully treated by control of diabetes mellitus, amphotericin B therapy (0.25 mg/kg per 24 h), local drainage and debridement.
