A case of rhinocerebral phycomycosis is reported in an immunocompetent 58-yr-old man. Following surgical resections and treatment with amphotericin B (5-40 mg/d) and 5-fluorocytosine (250 mg every 8 h), there was a temporary improvement, but panangiography disclosed occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. Further resections were performed eventually resulting in a improvement in the patients' general and neurological condition. At follow-up 1 yr later, there was no sign of recurrent infection.
