Factor VII deficiency was believed to be responsible for persistent vaginal haemorrhage in a 4.5-year-old multiparous Beagle bitch. An ovariohysterectomy, repeated transfusions of fresh blood, and packing of the vagina with sterile gauze were required to control the haemorrhage. After an episiotomy was performed and a small artery in the vagina was cauterized, no further bleeding occurred. Any animal presented with persistent haemorrhage and certainly any bitch with persistent vaginal haemorrhage should be evaluated for a coagulopathy.
