Isoproterenol induced changes in myocardial nucleic acids

Daily subcutaneous injections of isoproterenol increased heart weight 42% after 4 days of therapy. Ventricular RNA concentration was significantly elevated after 24 hours. Myocardial DNA was initially unchanged but significantly increased after 8 days of treatment. Ventricular systolic, diastolic pressures and coronary flow were not diminished in hypertrophied hearts. However, muscle contractility was slightly increased (P less than .05).
