Supplementary feeding of pre-school children [to increase their daily intake of protein by 7.5 g, energy by 180 kcal, retinol by 20 mu g and iron by 1.7 mg] was not enough to significantly alter their growth rate. It was recommended that the level of supplementary feeding be raised so as to provide daily at least 500 kcal energy and 10 to 15 g protein.
