Administration of the beta-blocker Inderal, 1 mg/kg, prior to emotional-painful stress was shown to prevent post-stress damage of contractility in isolated rat hearts. Inderal enhances animal heart resistance to hypoxic and reoxygenation damage and prevents progress thereof after the stress.
