Paromomycin sulfate, an antibiotic, was given to 30 patients in Colombia, infected with Taenia solium or T. saginata. Half the cases received 40 mg. per kg. body-weight per day for 5 days, and the rest received a single dose of 75 mg. per kg., with a maximum of 4 g. Examination of stools at intervals until 3 or 4 weeks after treatment, showed that only 2 patients remained infected (93.3% cure rate). Side effects were noted in 50% of cases, but were not severe.
