Effect of vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease on results of the immunodiffusion test for the demonstration of precipitating bovine leukosis virus antibodies

Twenty-two cattle seronegative or seropositive for bovine leukosis virus antibodies were vaccinated using two different FMD virus vaccines. One out of 16 seropositive animals showed a short distinct drop of antibodies in the immunodiffusion test on the fourth day following the vaccination. In order to prevent such cases during the vaccination campaigns it is suggested that the two procedures should be combined. Blood should be taken first for the serodiagnosis of bovine leukosis and then the vaccination against FMD carried out.
