An evaluation of the antifungal effect of bifonazole on Torulopsis glabrata and Candida albicans under various in vitro test conditions

Bifonazole showed in vitro significant activity against T. [C.] glabrata, C. albicans, Pityrosporum ovale [Malassezia ovalis] and various bacteria. With C. glabrata and C. albicans there was a tendency for min. inhibitory conc. to increase as fungal inoculum size was increased and as incubation time was prolonged. For C. glabrata, but not for C. albicans, min. inhibitory conc. were lower in liquid than on solid culture media. The antifungal activity was less pronounced at low pH values.
