A brief summary is given of some of the important functions of polyunsaturated and essential fatty acids, which are probably not commonly known. Attention was drawn to them in a recent review of the essential fatty acids by Horrobin (in: Horrobin, D.F. (Ed.), (1982), Clinical uses of essential fatty acids.
