Interferon therapy in experimental Semliki forest virus disease in mice

Induction of protection against Semliki-Forest virus (SFV) in mice treated with repeated doses of chick interferon (CIFN) or plant interferon (PIFN) appeared to be associated with activation of mononuclear phagocytic system (MPS) when assayed by the ability of macrophages to migrate on glass surface and stimulation of their endocytic activity. Since the activation of MPS by PIFN treatment persisted for a long period, it may afford better protection.
