The effects of vitamin K2 syrup on neonatal hypoprothrombinemia--double blind study

In 148 newborn infants with Thrombotest values less than 20%, vitamin K-2 6 or 2 mg, vitamin K-1 2 mg or placebo was given in syrup form by mouth in a double-blind test. Compared with placebo, vitamin K increased Thrombotest values significantly, best with 6 mg vitamin K-2, least with vitamin K-1. Bleeding time was significantly shorter with vitamin K. There was no significant difference among the groups in bilirubin or haematocrit values or in incidence of side-effects or complications.
