The paper deals with the inhibition of A. cobalamini growth in mineral media with application of molasses as a C source and stimulating substances. Only molasses stored not more than 2-3 mo. is good for A. cobalamini cultivation. When using molasses which is stored for a longer period, bacterial growth was inhibited or absent completely. It is due to reproduction of microorganisms in molasses whose metabolites inhibit the growth of the culture under study. When using high-quality molasses containing not more than 4.5-5 .times. 104 microbial cells/g, cobalaminogenesis of the culture was 4.2-10.1 times as high as in the control.
