Results of growth, sporulation and toxigenic activities of a C. botulinum, type A, cutlivated in a molasses medium, are presented and compared with the results obtained in a rich medium. Germination of the spores inoculated and sporulation of the culture started earlier in the molasses medium. The maximum value of vegetative cells attained in the rich medium was higher than the value observed in the molasses one, whereas the toxigenic activity obtained was higher in the molasses medium. The molasses medium can be a suitable and inexpensive medium for toxin production by C. botulinum type A.
