Toxigenic properties of C. perfringens 28 (BP6K) smooth[S]- and rough[R]-forms and their different ratios were studied. In the commercial strain C. perfringens 28 (BP6K) A type, the amount of viable cells changes in liquid and dried cultures. Different inoculations manifest variations in the amounts of S- and R-forms. The toxigenic activity of the filtrates depends on the ratios of cells from morphologically different colonies. The S- to R-form ratio of 1:3-1:4 was optimal for toxin production.
