Flavin formation and vitamin B12 biosynthesis have been studied in A. cobalamini. It was found that by the end of fermentation the content of flavins in the cobalt-deficient culture was considerably higher than in cobalt-containing medium, that is caused by the suppression of their utilization of biosynthesis of the nucleotide part of the cobalamin molecules. Betain stimulated simultaneous vitamin B12 and flavins sythesis, and also increased the activity of riboflavinkinase. Repression of cobalaminogenesis took place at the presence of exogenous vitamin B12, the level of flavins becoming higher. A hypothesis has been put forward about the existence of biogenetic relations of flavins and vitamin B12 in teh A. cobalamini bacterium.
