The role of lectin in enabling an alloimmune -treated TC bound simultaneously to a single CTL are found with both targets lysed. In 2-target conjugates comprised of a single SBA-treated (a nonlethal adhesion) and a single Con A-treated TC (a lethal adhesion), only the Con A-treated TC was lysed, suggesting that no global activation took place. PNA and SBA lectins evidently act at particular sites on the TC (revealed by Nase treatment) in mediating LDCC. Lectin-treated TC do not trigger the CTL to global activation in killing nonlethally bound TC. These results are discussed in relation to the mechanism of CTL-mediated cytotoxicity.
