Chronic administration of garlic powder results in spermatogenic arrest in white albino rats. Inhibition of spermatogenesis in the testes is the secondary effect of hypoglycemia/hypolipidemia. Total protein and sialic acid contents of the testes were reduced. Garlic powder administration significantly brings about a reduction in serum/liver cholesterol, serum triglycerides, phospholipids and transaminase enzyme activity. Reduced concentration of sialic acid in the testes, epididymis and seminal vesicle together with decreased Leydig cell function reflects the antiandrogenic nature of garlic in question.
