Administration of the ethanol extract of A. sativum bulbs (45 mg/kg, p.o., for for 28 days) to alloxan-induced diabetic mice significantly lowered the serum glucose levels, and reduced nociceptive responses in the tail-flick, hot plate, allodynia, formalin and formalin-induced paw oedema tests. The reversal of hyperglycaemia and hyperalgesia was progressive and more effective as the duration of extract administration increased.
