The principal coagulation tests performed in 57 patients with uncomplicated peptic ulcers revealed no essential changes in blood coagulation or fibrinolysis. Following histamine administration, these patients showed an acceleration of blood coagulation and considerable activation of fibrinolysis, which may be one of the reasons for gastroduodenal hemorrhage. Application of histamine to this group of patients, for the purpose of examining pancreatic secretion, should be exercised with great caution.
