Total alpha-amino acid nitrogen quantification as prognosticator in Reye's syndrome

Statistical comparisons showed that estimations of plasma alpha -amino nitrogen, blood ammonia and plasma total amino acids all prognosticated deterioration to severe coma in patients with Reye's syndrome, but the alpha -amino N method was technically simpler than the ammonia method and was faster and required less blood. The alpha -amino N method was also faster than separate estimation of total amino acids.
