Operations are discussed which were performed in cases with the diagnosis of appendicitis. In 325 of the 2078 cases of appendectomy (15.6%), there was a disagreement between the preoperative and postoperative diagnosis. In 237 cases (11.4%) no changes in the abdominal organs were disclosed on laparotomy. In 7.1% of these operations complications ensued. On the basis of the literature data, attention is called to peritoneal adhesions developing after operations with unchanged appendix which may later lead to acute or chronic intestinal occlusion.
