An epidemic of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis was reported in Bombay during Aug.-Oct., 1979. Twenty conjunctival swabs collected from the cases were processed at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) and yielded 6 virus isolates. Characterization studies revealed that they were all Coxsackievirus type A-EH 24/70. The clinical picture during this outbreak was similar to that observed in the earlier outbreak of 1975.
