Visceral larva migrans (toxocariasis) in Toronto

A case of visceral larva migrans (Toxocara canis) in a 7-year-old boy admitted to a children's hospital in Toronto, Canada, prompted a search of the hospital records from 1952 to 1978 for further cases. Only 18 cases were discovered that met at least 3 of 6 criteria for infection and were thus considered possible or probable cases of the disease. 3 possible cases of ocular toxocariasis during the same period were also uncovered. It is concluded that visceral larva migrans poses little risk to the health of children in the Toronto area.
