Glutathione & Ascorbic acid contents in developing rat brain during undernutrition

Brain glutathione (reduced) and ascorbic acid contents in rats undernourished during brain growth spurt period were studied. Ascorbic acid shows a maximum level at age of 6 days while glutathione after showing initial increase decreases with age, attaining a minimum at the age of 10 days. Undernourished rat brain showed significant changes in glutathione and ascorbic acid contents, glutathione level being significantly lowered and that of ascorbic acid elevated in undernourished brain at 18 days as compared to controls of the same age.
