Root growth of Russet Burbank potatoes inoculated with 1000 or 10 000 M. chitwoodi or M. hapla eggs was less than in controls at 15, 20 and 25 deg C but not at 30 deg C. M. chitwoodi reproduced best at 15, 20 and 25 deg C and M. hapla at 25 and 30 deg C. At each inoculum level, more M. chitwoodi than M. hapla were observed in tubers.
