Races of the Barley Root-Knot Nematode, Meloidogyne naasi. III. Reproduction and Pathogenicity on Creeping Bentgrass

Experiments were made to test the pathogenicity and the rate of reproduction of 5 physiological races of Meloidogyne naasi on 2 selections of Agrostis palustris. The bentgrass selection Toronto C-15 was susceptible to 3 of the 5 races, but in varying degree, while the selection Northmoor 9 was susceptible to all 5. The total weights of oven-dry clippings of at least one grass selection, taken over 8 months, were significantly reduced by all but one race of the nematode. Where the top weight was significantly reduced there was a slight increase in root weight due to galling. The nematode races could be separated by differences in susceptibility and population increase on the 2 grass selections.
