Thiocyanate and Iodine are normally present in the saliva of mammals. The I level in the saliva of sheep depends on the total plasma thiocyanate concentration. Thiocyanate inhibits I accumulation in the saliva. Iodine has no inhibitory effect on thiocyanate concentration in the saliva.
