Certain aspects of the biology and life cycle of Heterobilharzia americana in east central Texas

The life cycle of H. americana obtained from raccoons was determined for subsequent studies of the pathogenesis, diagnosis and immune response in infected dogs. The snail Lymnaea cubensis was susceptible to infection, but Pseudosuccinea columella collected from east central Texas was not. Cercariae emerged from the snails at night. White mice and dogs were exposed to the cercariae and patent infections were produced in both mammalian hosts.
