Bronchoalveolar washing cells and immunoglobulins of clinically normal calves

Immunoglobulins and cells were characterized and quantitated in fluids obtained by lavage of clinically normal calf lungs, using fiberoptics bronchoscopy. Although IgA predominated in most individual bronchoalveolar fluid samples, the average ratio of IgG/IgA in the fluid was greater than the ratio in nasal washings and less than the ratio in serum. Macrophages were the predominant cell type, followed by lymphocytes and neutrophils.
