Electrophysiological exploration during intoxication by pindolol

A 60 yr old patient was hospitalized after voluntary intoxication with 150 mg of pindolol. No complications were noted on admission. Heart rate, blood pressure, and myocardial function remained normal. Electrophysiological exploration performed when the serum level of pindolol was 0.44 .mu.mol/l revealed a bundle branch block and anomalies of sinus function. Subsequent control exploration after intoxication demonstrated the persistance of a bundle branch block and the disappearance of alterations of sinus function. During intoxications caused by .beta.-blocking substances, patients must be monitored in specialized wards. Disturbances of sinus funtion may occur even in the absence of preliminary electrophysiological anomalies.
