Use of pindolol in a once-a-day dose in the treatment of arterial hypertension

Patients [30] with mild to moderate hypertension (mean: 190/111 mm Hg) were treated with oral pindolol 15 mg for .apprx. 30 days. Blood pressure, heart rate and side effects were monitored weekly. The normalization of both lying and standing blood pressure was obtained in 26 out of 30 patients (2 patients needed 15 mg twice/day). No significant decrease in heart rate was observed. Twenty-six patients complained of mild transient side effects. Only 3 patients had to stop the treatment for side effects.
