A 4-year-old girl from the Philippines, a recent immigrant to Hawaii, had haemoptysis and a chest X-ray disclosed diffuse infiltrates of the right lung. Paragonimus westermani eggs were identified in a morning gastric aspirate, and in samples of sputum and faeces. Bithionol given at 40 mg/kg/day every other day for 30 days proved successful and 2.5 years later she was asymptomatic and growing normally.
