The immune reaction in 230 volunteers to neuraminidase of influenza A virus in response to administration of live influenzal vaccines was studied. Antineuraminidase antibodies were titrated in the elution inhibition reaction (EIR), a simplified method which permits mass serological investigations to be implemented. The sera of those inoculated were studied simultaneously in EIR and the hemagglutination inhibition test (HAIT). The amount of 4-fold and higher seroconversions documented in the volunteers in HAIT and EIR was 43.9 and 40.0%, respectively. The test results coincided within 57.8-86.2%. From 5.2-24.8% of immune shifts were diagnosed in EIR without HAIT confirmation. An interrelation exists between the initial titer of the antineuraminidase antibodies and the presence of seroconversion to the vaccine administration.
