A comparative study of the time course of antihemagglutinins and antineuraminidase antibody production during the influenza epidemic of 1972 was carried out in patients and in volunteers vaccinated intranasally with live influenza vaccine. An inhibitor-resistant variant of one of the isolates of this epidemic, A2/Moscow/72/H3/N2 strain, was used as the vaccine strain. In the course of the study, a complete correlation was found between antihemaggluiinin and antineuraminidase antibody response both in patients with influenza and in vaccinees with influenza vaccine. It was also established that antineuraminidase antibody titers increased more intensively when the interval between the first and second serum specimens was short.
