Fractionation of cell-free extracts of P. shermanii (P. frendenreichii) by ammonium sulfate, CM-Sephadex C-50 chromatography and Sephadex G-200 gel filtration resulted in the isolation of acid and alkaline phosphatases. The acid phosphatase was purified 86-fold and the alkaline phosphatase 89-fold by these methods.
