Occurrence of Kanagawa positive Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains around Mangalore (south India)

More than 100 samples of estuarine water, mud, crabs, shrimps, mussels and fish were studied by enrichment technique for the presence of V. parahaemolyticus. The organism was detected in various samples (8.33-33.3%). Of the 16 strains isolated, 4 produced .beta. hemolysis on Wagatsuma agar.
