Swine dysentery: observations on the frequency of latent infection

Swabs were taken from asymptomatic pigs on six farms where a swine dysentery outbreak had occurred within the last year. Prophylactic medication was used on four sites. Treponema hyodysenteriae was isolated from five farms. Faecal excretion may be totally suppressed by feed medication.
