On administering 5 U of soluble insulin to rats, the hepatic glutamic pyruvic (GPT) and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminases (GOT) were measured after 15, 30 and 60 min. After 15 min of insulin administration, significant reduction in GPT activities was noted, the lowering effect gradually disappearing so that after a 60 min interval, the GPT activity was higher than in the control group without any insulin. No significant effect of insulin on GOT activities was observed. The gluconeogenic inhibitory effect of insulin may be one mechanism for lowering activities of GPT.
