Ten patients with disturbances of the impulse-conducting cardiac system having temporary endocavitary pacing from the right ventricle were investigated by hemodilution, polycardiography and echocardiography. The investigations were performed during spontaneous cardiac rhythm and during pacing at frequencies from 40-120/min. The obtained results demonstrated that despite a decrease in the ejection volume during pacing and during rhythm acceleration the min heart volume increased individually in a wide range of the pacing rhythm from 50-100/min. Echocardiography apparently reflects better than polycardiography the hemodynamics of the left ventricle in the paced patients although both methods may be useful in clinical practice. For optimal hemodynamic improvement in patients on long-term pacing, programmed pacemakers or pacemakers with bifocal synchronized atrioventricular pacing are most useful.
