Patients [70] with post-infarction akinetic cardiac aneurysms were studied. The basic parameters of left ventricular hemodynamic function, i.e., end-diastolic pressure, end-diastolic volume index, ejection fraction, the extent of the lesion and contractility of the areas not affected by akinesia were analyzed. A very low correlation was found between the extent of the aneurysm and the 1st 3 parameters. These parameters showed a much higher correlation with the contractility of the ventricular myocardium area not affected by akinesia. Left ventricular hemodynamic function with an akinetic post-infarction aneurysm is determined more by the contractility of the areas lying beyond the zone of the post-infarction scar than by the extent of the aneurysm.
