The hemolymph of P. ricini possesses pronounced activity of diacyl and triacylglycerol lipases. The enzymes may be considered true lipases as they hydrolyze long-chain fatty acid glycerol esters and exhibit only 1 pH optimum at 7.4 which is also the optimum pH for the fat body enzyme in this insect. The pattern of their variation during larval-pupal development was followed. P. ricini also exhibits weak activity of cholesteryl esterase in hemolymph with pH optimum at 7.4. The function of this enzyme is unclear.
